Art in Review: John Thomson, ‘China and the Far East Photographs’ at Westwood Gallery

Grace Glueck, New York Times, 24 Jul 1998

Scottish-born photographer John Thomson (1837—1921) lived in and toured Asia from 1862 to 1872. While traveling through China, Hong Kong, Borneo, Cambodia, Siam, Singapore, and other countries, Thomson compiled images that would form an important visual archive of the region.

The exhibition displays fifteen vintage prints and forty limited-edition reprints from Thomson’s original glass plate negatives.
