Douglas Kirkland, Who Took Portraits of Movie Stars, Dies at 88

Richard Sandomir, The New York Times, 9 Oct 2022

Douglas Kirkland, a noted photojournalist and portraitist whose subjects included Marilyn Monroe wrapped in a silk sheet and Coco Chanel at work in her Paris atelier, died on Oct. 2 at his home in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles. He was 88.

We were privileged to debut four NYC exhibitions for Douglas during his lifetime: 'An Evening with Marilyn', 'Freeze Frame', 'Portraits of Ian Gray', and the premiere exhibition of his photographs of 'Coco Chanel, 1962', viewed and requested by Karl Lagerfeld to tour with Chanel Inc. to three exhibition locations curated by James Cavello in Honolulu, Tokyo, and Hong Kong.
