Leo Matiz: Mythmakers, a photography exhibition at Westwood Gallery NYC, was reviewed by Kara Bischopink for Musée Magazine. Mythmakers features photographs by Colombian photographer Leo Matiz (1917–1998) that offer an intimate look at Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and David Alfaro Siqueiros as they shaped the course of Mexican Modernism in the 1940s.
"Across his works, Matiz moves beyond simple documentation into something more elusive, exploring the dialogues between his subjects, life and the world around them. With dramatic castings of light and shadow, Matiz brings out a different story held within the simplest moments and gestures. What remains is a visual archive of Latin American visual culture, where intimate moments open up to vulnerability, allowing expression to thrive."
