The Observer reports that Marianne, Dowager Princess of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn, passed away on May 4, 2025 at the age of 105.

Born in Salzburg in 1919, Princess Marianne was the eldest of nine children to Baron Friedrich and his wife Maria-Anna, daughter of the Count of Meran. After receiving her first camera at 10 years old, she attended Blocherer art school in Munich and later embarked on a career as a professional photographer.

In 2006, Westwood Gallery NYC presented 60 photographs by Princess Marianne Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn in her first New York exhibition. According to Vogue, the exhibition's imagery of aristocracy, politicians, actors, artists, atheletes, and the cultural zeitgeist “Captures the beau monde at play.”
