Coco Chanel By Douglas Kirkland Three Weeks, 40 Photos

Style Frizz, 8 Oct 2008

Photographer Douglas Kirkland managed to surprise the world with 40 unseen pictures of Coco Chanel, the legend!

Kirkland’s young eye (27 years old at the time, in 1962) studied Miss Chanel for three weeks time and got so close and won Coco’s favors that he has gone where no photographer has gone before. In his mission from Look magazine, he took pictures of Mademoiselle in her private rooms, in the Versailles gardens and not only pictures of her models and her working with sketches, like he was first warned to do. His photos are on exposition in SoHo, New York, at Westwood Gallery.
