Westwood Gallery NYC Announces Exclusive Representation of Joshua Charow

We are pleased to announce our exclusive representation of documentary photographer and filmmaker Joshua Charow.

His debut exhibition with the gallery: “Loft Law: Photographs by Joshua Charow” will open May 16th and be on view through June 29. The exhibition will include over thirty photographs by Charow alongside selected artwork by artists featured in his Loft Law series, curated by James Cavello.

Joshua Charow is a documentary photographer and filmmaker who is interested in the unseen stories and subcultures of New York City. From an early age, Charow was immersed in 'Urban Exploring,' climbing skyscrapers, frequently entering and photographing off-limit spaces of the city.

Three years ago, Charow found a map of the remaining buildings with Loft Law protection. Charow rang hundreds of doorbells to find and photograph over 75 loft law tenants across the city in order to document the last of these incredible spaces and the artists that made them home.

The exhibition is accompanied by a hardcover book 'Loft Law: The Last of New York City's Original Artist Lofts' by Joshua Charow and published by Damiani Books, Italy.

This will be Charow's first exhibition at Westwood Gallery NYC and his premiere exhibition in New York City.

Joshua Charow holds his BFA from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in Film & Television. Joshua's new book Loft Law, was reviewed in Artnet News by Jamie Valentino.

In addition to his documentary photography, Joshua has also shot notable documentary films. Charow created and directs an online documentary series titled LimeLight, which explores the unique lives of New Yorkers. Over the past year, the series has amassed a following of 150,000 people and garnered over 40 million views. His first feature film as Director of Photography, Untrapped, is an official selection of the 2022 Tribeca International Film Festival. He has directed and shot documentary films for The New York Times, TIME magazine, Amazon Prime Video and Hulu.
