Hajira Ahmad: Women of the Sindh
Past exhibition
Overview
WESTWOOD GALLERY NYC presents a solo exhibition of photographer Hajira Ahmad, featuring her striking documentation of the Sindhiyani Tehreek—a women-led political movement founded in the 1980s in rural Sindh, Southern Pakistan. Formed in defiance of a deeply patriarchal regime, the Sindhiyani Tehreek emerged as a powerful force against systemic gender inequality, domestic violence, and illiteracy. Ahmad’s photographs capture the movement’s profound resilience and unity, offering a rare glimpse into the daily lives and unyielding spirit of these women. The exhibition stands as a tribute to their courage and to the transformative strength of collective resistance.
