Lazhar Mansouri Algerian, 1932-1985

WESTWOOD GALLERY NYC presents a solo exhibition of portraiture by Algerian photographer Lazhar Mansouri (1932-1985) focusing on Berber women from his hometown of Aïn Beïda (Aurès), Algeria.

Lazhar Mansouri: Portraits of a Village, 1850-70 presents some of over 100,000 photographs of North Algerian townspeople. The subjects' vulnerability, notably that of religiously veiled women, starkly contrasts the kitschy setup.
